Poshta Presents - Patterned & Personalized

Hello Friends! Wow, this month is flying by! We are back again today with another installment of Poshta Presents with our March guest, Tracy Boyd! She is going to knock your socks off again with a thoughtful gift - a patterned and personalized banner. Read on to find out how Tracy created this sweet keepsake. Take it away Tracy!

For this project I made a name banner for a special little girl with a beautiful name. Our friends just moved and I wanted to make their daughter a banner for her new bedroom. I once again used Terial Magic for the background of each panel in cotton fabric from my stash. If you are not familiar with Terial Magic, you can read more about it here. I also used a little Aleene’s Stop Fraying on the edges of the fabric if I noticed any fraying from handling the material. The Terial Magic paired with Postha Design dies cut the fabric so cleanly.

Let me show you how I made this project.

I used the same process using the Terial Magic as I did with last week's project to cut the top layer out of fabric. For the base layer, I used the Banner Builder: EnPointe dies along with Tundra (DMC#3865) felt on the front and cardstock for the back, with one layer of cotton batting in between. The fabric layers are stitched with Arugula (DMC#3345) and the letters were diecut using Banner Builder Alphabet Dies with Arugula felt and stitched with DMC#3345.

For the accessory panels, I used the Banner Builder: En Pointe Dies for the base using Tundra felt (DMC#3865). I cut the flower from the Spring Flowers die set using Paloma (DMC#353) and Ripe Raspberry (DMC#892) for the petals. For the center I wanted dimension, so I cut the back of a 1cm Ochre felt ball to give me a flat back and stitched onto the flower petals. Then I stitched the flower onto the Tundra panel.

For the cupcake I used the cupcake from the Birthday Crown Additions Dies using Barley (DMC#612) for the cake, Glacier (DMC#3813) for the cupcake liner and Satin Slipper (DMC#818) for the frosting. Again, I stitched the cupcake to the front felt panel before I stitched the felt front to the cardstock back panel. The sprinkles are the Rainbow Sprinkle Bugle Bead Mix which can be found in the Poshta Design store.

I really wanted to use fabric tape to string the panels together but it was tight fit. My solution was to add tiny magnets to the backside of the fabric tape so the extra panel could be interchangeable or removed all together without leaving magnets exposed. This will make it easier to swap out panels I’m sure I’ll be sending to her in the future.

Here you can see the banner fully displayed. As you can see, the flower panels are at each end of the banner, but if she chooses, they can be swapped out for the cupcake panels. I can see making other panels for different occasions or milestones.

Thank you so much, Tracy, for sharing this special gift with us. The patterned fabric adds a beautiful touch and the interchangeable elements are so clever! I am sure that the recipient was so thrilled!

Thank you all for spending some time with us today. We hope you will stop by again next Thursday to see more fun projects by Tracy. Have a great day!

  • Thank you everyone for your kind words! Suzanne C. I used 1/2" fabric tape that I purchased from Amazon. I did like the idea of velcro dots & ordered some for the next time I make something like this.

  • Cute banner………..also like the use of magnets. I use velcro dots on a lot of my projects. They would work on this banner too! Where are you finding the fabric tape? I have a hard time finding it.
