Valentine's Day Cookie Garland!

Good morning, friends! I've been doing a lot of therapeutic stitching lately, especially in the evenings.

I decided I wanted to make some additional decor for the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday (and I figured it couldn't hurt to spread a little extra love), so I paired up my Baker's Dozen Kit and my Basic Heart Die to create this garland.

I made a mix of Barley and Shortbread cookie bases with toppings and fillings cut from Tundra, Satin Slipper, and Crabapple (the kit comes with Cardinal, but I thought the Crabapple tone would be a good fit for Valentine's Day).

I mostly used the heart elements from the kit to create iced cookies and Linzer cookies, but I also used the holes only die from the Basic Heart to cut stitching holes into panels of felt. Then I used a pair of scissors to cut around the outside of the holes using a slightly wiggly, irregular line that looks like frosting. I used that same die to cut stitching holes into the cookie bases so it would be easy to attach them.

I added a mix of beads and sequins on each cookie to give them all sweet, festive flair. Most of the elements came from the Baker's Dozen Embellishment Box and the Christmas Cookie Sprinkle Mix.

These iridescent beads are an exception. These always remind me of coarse sugar when used on treats (Deep Dish, By The Slice, etc.) and it has become a favorite way to embellish them. These beads are in the In Bloom and Sugarplum Color Stories (and Best Dressed, but that's out of stock right now).

I love finding new ways to stretch my supplies to work for different holidays and celebrations. I am so glad to have another piece of bright and cheerful decor to add warmth and joy to our home. Hold on to your joy, friends, and I will see you again soon!

  • I absolutely LOVE this!!! I used all your darling cookie dies to make a kitchen garland to match my Christmas Xstitch! Please, please, PLEASE will you make a heart cookie to match the other cookies?!!? I made one using the ruffle from the heart set & cut the edges with scalloped pinking shears, but it was REALLY hard to cut through all the layers… I KNOW people would buy it!!! Thanks!!
