Poshta Presents - Festive Canister Wrap and More!

Hello friends! We are back today with some more Christmas in July! Our July guest Megan Swindell has another delightful project to share with you.  Take it away, Megan!

This week features a couple more home décor projects—because I love having Poshta Designs in every room of my home—and these Evergreen Trees offer so many possibilities!

I started with a neutral palette of Tundra, Chai, Cocoa, and Cobblestone. Though I usually lean toward color, I was excited to try something different. I used beige and white gingham fabric from my stash as the background, painted a 9” bamboo embroidery hoop dark green, and layered the fabric over white felt to create a sturdy base for the trees.

I cut two of each tree: large Pencil Pine in Cobblestone and Cocoa, large Classic Evergreen in Tundra, and large Scalloped Spruce in Chai. I set one of each aside to be used later as a base on the hoop fabric, and then ran the others back through the with the details die before embroidering and beading each tree. I used beads, sequins, and coordinating threads from the Hiking Trail and Hayride Color Stories, mixing colors and tree bases for contrast and variety.

After the trees were decorated, I glued and stitched the layered Pencil Pines onto the fabric first, then added the Classic Evergreen and Scalloped Spruce the same way. I finished it with a brown and white bow and plan to hang it in the guest bedroom with last week’s reindeer pillow.

Once I got started, I couldn’t stop, so I switched to a brighter palette and used the other Evergreen details die to make a wrap for my laundry detergent canister.

I used Sunflower, Deep Teal, and Cardinal for the bases, topped with Mango, Spearmint, and Taffy. After cutting the details on the base and medium tree pieces, I stitched the horizontal lines with chain stitch for a garland look. I added lazy daisy stitches, gold beads from the Keeping Cozy Color Story, and metallic gold stars from the Classic Evergreen die.

I cut a 12x18 piece of white wool blend felt into two 5.25” x 16.5” pieces, glued and stitched the trees to one piece, then layered blue felt ricrac between the two white pieces and sewed them together. I added ribbon ties on each side so it can wrap around the jar, bringing a bright winter touch to the laundry room.

And it wouldn’t be Week 3 without a Penguin bonus project—meet the Pocket Penguin Purse Pals! I’m excited to add one to my bag for the holiday season.

I love the new dot felt—it’s wonderful to work with! I used Cardinal and Petal Dot for the hats, with Parsley and Wintergreen for the accents.

For the baby penguin, I used a Granite body, Overcast face, and Marmalade beak. I left him unstuffed, hoping he might hold lip balm, but he’s just a bit too small.

For the other penguin, I used an Inkwell body, Tundra face, and Monarch beak, then stuffed him with quilt batting.

I added a back pocket as a fun way to gift cash, trimming a large Pencil Pine with my rotary cutter to create it. I finished with a heart from the Grown with Love die—because who doesn’t love penguins and dough?
