Poshta Presents - Felt Focal Points on Cards!

Hello friends! We are back today with another episode of Poshta Presents with our May guest, Karen Spaiches! Karen has an amazing grouping of projects to share with you today. Prepare to be delighted! Take it away, Karen!
A while back, Lizzie mentioned on a live that folks were curious to see the Poshta dies in action for card making. That gave me the perfect spark for today’s projects since I love making cards as much as felt stitching!
Today, I’m showcasing the Plaid Coverall, Ray of Sunshine and Over the Moon die sets. For the blue cards, I went with my custom Lincoln color story, while the pink cards are inspired by the Painted Posies color story.

Instead of paper, I used felt for most of my card elements. Felt adds such lovely dimension and really ups the keepsake factor. Plus, the card fronts can be displayed after being received – one fun idea is to place the card in a 5x7 frame so everyone can enjoy it!

First is the Hey Sunshine card, featuring the Plaid Coverall die and Ray of Sunshine. I made a little “shelf” by cutting Pea Pod felt twice from the Deep Dish die set. The cheerful Painted Posies colors paired with Plaid Coverall die created a bright and fun backdrop from Marmalade felt. I stitched the pattern in soft DMC threads – 605, 352 and 341. The sun was cut twice from Satin Slipper felt, split in half so each ray could shine in a different Painted Posies thread color. I glued the plaid felt to a green cardstock base with Tacky glue, then used felt glue to attach the sun with the sun’s rays lifted for extra dimension by only gluing in the center. The shelf was stitched with DMC 3364 and popped up with a foam strip and Tacky glue. Sentiments were stamped and embossed on pink cardstock and added on top, finishing the card with a sweet touch.

Next is the Pink Moon card, showing off the Over the Moon die set with Satin Slipper felt. The crescent moon was cut twice, once using the details die and once with the plain die, and the small cloud came from Joyful Rainbow set, cut with cozy Tundra felt. Layered felt automatically gives the card such wonderful softness and dimension. I stitched moon details using DMC 3364 and sprinkled in Petal Parade sequins and beads, while the cloud was stitched with DMC 3865 and decorated with tiny star sequins. The peach cardstock background was die cut to match the Marmalade felt and textured with a cutting plate. Everything was glued onto a white card base. I finished it off with sentiments embossed in white on pink cardstock.

The Sending Smiles card was a fun chance to try dry embossing on felt! I cut Sea Spray felt into a panel, sprayed it with fabric stiffener, and let it dry overnight. After trimming, I inked a cloud 3D embossing folder just a shade darker than the felt, then ran it through my die cutting machine for lovely texture and depth. This made the perfect background for the smiling sun from Ray of Sunshine. The sun was die cut twice from Sunlight felt and once from Ochre for the center. As I stitched with DMC 3820, I added yellow beads for a little sparkle and stitched on eyelashes to make it extra cute. The sun was glued just in the center to the felt background, letting the rays pop up. The sentiment was stamped and embossed on cardstock to match and glued to the base.

Finally, the Welcome Sweet Baby card also used textured cardstock like the Pink moon card, this time on a kraft card base. The moon base was die cut twice from Indigo felt, with a crescent moon from Sprout felt. I used the details die to cut one layer of the Indigo base and a tiny star from Ocean Marl felt. The crescent was stitched with DMC 3364, then layered on the Indigo base with DMC 823. The star was stitched with two strands of DMC 3865 and two strands of DMC 775. Some blue sequins and beads added sparkle to the eyes and moon before everything was glued down. The sentiment was heat embossed on kraft cardstock to finish the sweet look

I love using felt instead of paper – it really makes the cards feel special and frame-worthy. Plus, I have lots more felt cut out already, so expect more projects soon!
Wow, wow, wow! What a feast for the eyes this post has been! I love the use of felt on cards and Karen's color selections are so perfect for baby cards.
