Poshta Presents - Celestial Nursery Decor!

Hello Friends!  It's Thursday, which means another installment of Poshta Presents! We are joined by our friend Karen Spaiches again today with her last round of delightful projects. This week she brings us the most precious nursery decor! Take it away, Karen!

This week, I found myself drawn to creating nursery decor for my new grandson. As I worked, I couldn’t help but think about the quiet, tender moments that fill those early days—soft light, whispered lullabies, and the feeling that everything is brand new. Using my custom color story, I incorporated the Ray of Sunshine and Over the Moon die sets to create meaningful, handmade keepsakes just for him.

My first project was inspired by a pair of frames I discovered at Dollar General. I immediately envisioned them as bookends for the growing collection of baby books Lincoln has already received. After removing the original artwork, I painted the frames to coordinate with Shortbread felt. My husband helped bring the idea to life by attaching the frames to pieces of scrap wood, and I repainted everything for a seamless, cohesive finish.

For the artwork, I die cut the Ray of Sunshine twice from Ochre felt, with the center cut once from Sunlight. I also used the Over the Moon die set to cut two full moon bases from Ocean Marl felt and a crescent from Sea Spray. I stitched the sun rays together using DMC 3823, then hand embroidered the word “sun” on the center before attaching it. For the moon, I embroidered “moon” on the front and added delicate details for the eye before stitching the crescent in place and assembling the piece. A few sequins and beads added just the right touch of sparkle. To complete the look, I selected patterned papers in bright blue and yellow tones to complement the soft palette, adhered them inside the frames, and secured the felt designs with Tacky Glue.

My second project is a sweet little door hanger, inspired by a piece of fabric I fell in love with months ago. I cut the fabric into a 6x6-inch square and began layering my design. The full moon was cut from Ocean Marl felt, with a crescent from Sunlight, and small embellishments—including a star, cloud, and eye details—from coordinating Sea Spray and Tundra felt. I began by stitching the star and facial details onto the moon, adding eyelashes for a gentle, sleepy expression.

Once the crescent was complete, I stitched it and the full moon directly onto the fabric, centering the design. I embroidered the word “shhh” onto the cloud in DMC 823 and, true to my style, added beads for the dots—French knots and I are still not on speaking terms! I attached the cloud with a bit of loft batting for dimension, giving it a soft, pillowy feel. The piece was finished as a small pillow with a simple blue backing and white ric rac trim. In full honesty, I forgot to include a hanger initially, so I added one afterward with buttons—and I think it adds a charming, handmade touch.

For my final project this month, I created a daily journal to capture the special moments I’ll share with my grandson. I wanted the journal to feel as cozy and meaningful as the memories it will hold.

I started with a small notebook, but of course, it needed a personal touch. Using the Plaid Coverall die, I cut the pattern from soft Shortbread felt and layered it onto kraft cardstock for more structure. To bring it all together, I carefully stitched the felt and cardstock with a palette of rich threads—DMC 823, 739, 775, and 772—adding a homespun charm.

To give the cover a comforting touch, I fringed the edge of the felt to resemble a cozy blanket. Then, I crafted an adorable bear using the Beloved Bear die, cutting the head and ears from Morel felt, with a soft Sea Spray for the ear insides. I trimmed and stitched the bear's features —using Granite felt for the nose, black beads for the eyes both stitched with DMC 310, and a muzzle highlighted with DMC 3862. The head and ears were carefully assembled with coordinating thread colors for a polished finish.

I glued the bear onto the plaid background with felt glue and added a small blue bow. Finally, I adhered the complete panel to the notebook, turning it into a heartfelt keepsake that I look forward to filling with treasured memories.

It has been such a joy to spend this month creating with the Ray of Sunshine, Over the Moon, and Plaid Coverall dies. Each project was made with love and anticipation for a very special little boy. I still have a few more creations to share in the coming days, and I look forward to continuing this journey with you.

Oh my goodness, what precious additions to Lincoln's nursery! I am sure they will be cherished for a long time to come, and a constant reminder of a Grandmother's love. Thank you so much, Karen, for sharing your time and talent with us this month! We appreciate you! Join us again next Thursday as we introduce our June guest designer! Have a great week everyone!
