Poshta Presents - Super Sweet Greetings!
Hello friends! Happy Thursday! We are back today with another installment of Poshta Presents with our guest, Libby Hickson! Libby has a fun trio of cards to share with you, sharing how well felt stitching and cardmaking overlap. Take it away, Libby!
Hello! I'm so excited to be back again this week, working with more frozen goodies! This week I focused on the Sweet Treats: Popsicle Die, and since I'm a cardmaker at heart, I wanted to show how fun it is to use these dies on cards! I began by making a trio of cards, with the popsicles cut from felt and stitched before mounting them onto cards.
Now let's take a closer look at each card. First up, this popsicle in shades of teal. I combined Glacier, Poolside, and Calypso felts, and embellished it with sequins and beads from the Jelly Bean Color Story. To keep the stitching simple (I am still a newbie stitcher!), I just used the same floss color for everything, which is DMC 3813, the match for the Glacier felt. For all of the felt popsicles, I stitched them onto popsicle bases die cut from white cardstock, for stability, and to make it easier to attach them to the cards. I dug out some other elements from the stamping stash to finish the cards. I used that same "hello sweet friend" greeting on all the cards, since the "sweet" goes with the popsicle.
For the next card, I used another popsicle style included in the die set. The felt colors here are Cheeky and Lollipop, and I used DMC 3865 (white) floss for the stitching. The popsicle sticks on all three cards are Barley, with the matching DMC 612 floss. To create the background on this card, I pulled out the Chevron Coverall Die, and stitched to fill the chevrons in with DMC 778, the match for the Lollipop felt.
For the last felt popsicle, I used the dies to create the version with chocolate dripping. The felt colors here are Pixie and Walnut, with the Barley popsicle stick. I used the heart from Grown With Love Dies - I always love adding hearts to things! The heart was cut from Cardinal felt. Here, the background is again the Chevron Coverall Die, but I just used it die cut with no stitching.
While all of the above popsicles were done with felt, you can also use these dies with cardstock! It can be a little easier to stitch on cardstock, since it's so stiff. I recreated the cards above using cardstock from my stash. On the pink card, I changed it up slightly by using the chevron die in the background differently, doing a running stitch with white floss along the chevrons rather than filling them in.
And here's a final look at all 6 of my cards together, felt and cardstock versions. While I had fun making all of them, I really do prefer stitching on the felt. It feels more "special" to me.
