Introducing The Butterfly Details Collection

Good morning and welcome back to the third and final day of introductions for our Spring 2023 Release! Today we're showcasing the Butterfly Details Collection. This collection includes the Basic Butterfly Die, Monarch Butterfly Details Die, Lacewing Butterfly Details Die, Botanical Butterfly Details Die, and Petite Butterfly Die. Let's take a closer look!

The foundation of this collection is the Basic Butterfly Die (retails for $24). Butterflies are so beautiful and delicate. They are harbingers of spring and often symbolize growth and new beginnings. One can’t help but smile when watching their meandering flight paths as they float on warm breezes. The Basic Butterfly Die brings these delightful creatures right to your fingertips. The solid wings in this die are perfect for creating color blocked designs and with a coordinating collection of Detail dies, you can create your own kaleidoscope of unique and colorful butterflies!

This die comes with an Inspiration Guide outlining how the Basic Butterfly coordinates with the Details dies in this collection.

Please note: This die coordinates with the Monarch Butterfly Details Die, the Lacewing Butterfly Details Die, and the Botanical Butterfly Details Die. This die does not cut the interior details, just the solid butterfly shape.

Another note: Somewhere between the design process and the packaging for this die there was a little snafu and, long story short (no pun intended), the insert for the packaging is a tad bit short. It's sort of like the die had an adolescent growth spurt and now its pants don't fit. It's a really dumb mistake and I'm super embarrassed about it, but I didn't want to hold up an entire collection because I'm a twit that didn't double check her dimensions. We'll make the necessary adjustments and get the packaging replaced soon, but if you order in the near future there's a good chance you'll get the goofy packaging. I'm genuinely sorry.

The decorative Detail dies that coordinate are the Monarch, Lacewing, and Botanical Butterfly Detail Dies (retail for $10 each and are sold individually). These dies feature shaped backing plates that make it a snap to see how you need to line up your dies for hassle-free creative time.

These dies do not cut the wing shapes, just the interior details.

We also have the Petite Butterfly Die (retails for $12) coming your way. Sometimes a project calls for a smaller, daintier focal point. The Petite Butterfly Die shines in those moments. This die is a pint-size version of our Basic Butterfly and includes options that will allow your butterfly to be fully secured or fluttering off of your creations while being fastened only at the body. You’ll be amazed at the variety you can achieve with this lovely little butterfly!

I also have a Butterfly Details Collection project to share, and it's one I am super excited about!

Do you ever have an idea for a project that has you totally smitten? And then you finish it and you can't wait to share? And then you go to take photos and realize that the thing you couldn't wait to share is darn near impossible to photograph? Well, this mobile is one of those for me. I'll share a video of it twirling and whirling over on my Instagram stories later today.

It's hard to explain how pretty this is in real life. I used clear beads to embellish each of the butterflies (just on one side though, I thought that was plenty) and they catch the light and sparkle ever so slightly on every twirl.

 I used the Monarch Butterfly Details and Lacewing Butterfly Details to give peeks of color through the patterns (the Botanical Butterfly is more solid, but don't worry, I'll share more of that soon).

I chose a palette to match Tilly's room (I worked with Petal, Coral Reef, Sunflower, Soft Jade, Glacier, Lagoon, and Tundra). When the pandemic hit I was just three weeks away from Tilly's birth day and we still hadn't finished her room (I had painted and we had furniture, but otherwise it was a total bachelor pad). Unfortunately, all nursery funds were immediately reallocated and I never got back to decorating when things turned around months later. By then I had a (still fairly) new-ish baby and the ambition to tackle such a project never really materialized.

So when this idea occurred to me I knew immediately that I wanted to make a pretty decoration for her room. There's already a plant hook in one corner and this will be the perfect thing to add a splash of color. There's also a vent nearby, so the air will be amazing for making this mobile move.

I created the antennae with cloth-wrapped floral wire that I colored with a Copic marker to blend in with the Lagoon felt. My local store only had green, but I have seen white, black, and other colors online if you would like to do something similar. I used E6000 to add beads to the ends both to soften the snipped wire and because I thought it would look super cute. I just sewed the antennae between the butterfly body layers, but if you are making something that will get more handling I would suggest reinforcing with some sort of adhesive.

I used an embroidery hoop for the ring and hot glue to secure all of the butterflies. Then I glued white grosgrain overtop of everything to make sure it's nice and secure. Tilly can't wait to have this in her room. It was all I could do to keep her from snatching it out of the tree while I was trying to take photos.
