Gobble Garland!

Hello, everyone! I wanted to pop in today with a Thanksgiving project. I know there are some people out there who aren't ready to move on to Christmas quite yet (one of said people even lives in my house), so I wanted to share a bit of autumnal decor before I dive into the deep end of the yuletide pool.

I made an autumn garland last year, but I wanted something with a Thanksgiving-specific vibe to hang in our dining room this year. I was going for something light hearted, even silly, and I think this is just right.

I used the Statement Alphabet to spell out "Gobble" using Russet felt. Each letter got a little bit of embellishment with beads and sequins. These are from Keeping Cozy (but you can find the same sequins in the By The Bushel and Sweater Weather Color Stories). I also like to use chipboard inserts inside my letters to make sure they have a solid structure and won't droop.

I wanted to dress up both ends of the garland, so I pulled out some of my Thanksgiving themed dies to add some playful pizzaz.

First in line is the By The Slice Banner Die. I made two pieces of pie, one double-crust vented and one lattice.

I used Barley for the crust on both, but the double-crust vented pie has Indigo in the opening to look like blueberry pie. I also embellished with some clear iridescent beads to look like coarse sugar (these came from Best Dressed, but they're also in the Frost, Delighted, and Sugarplum Color Stories).

The lattice uses Gingersnap as the filling to give an apple pie sort of appearance. I dressed this slice up with the same sequins as the letters.

I also created two turkeys using the Turkey Trot Die. They're similar, but I used slightly different colors to keep things interesting (and not too matchy-matchy). This turkey was made with Walnut, Furrow, Squash, Red Currant, and Tundra felt.

This turkey was made using Furrow, Gingersnap, Sunflower, Red Currant, and Tundra felt. I used lazy daisy stitches to sew the feathers. The last time I made turkeys, I used three strands of threads on the feathers, but this time I used six to make sure the feathers really pop!

And finally, I used Deep Dish to serve up a couple of whole pies too. I took the opportunity with these pies to bring in a little color, so the pie plates are on the cooler end of the spectrum. This one uses Barley, Agave, and Red Currant. I think it looks like a sweet little cherry pie. I used the same clear iridescent sequins as on the blueberry pie to give that same impression of coarse sugar on top.

The pumpkin pie is Barley, Squash, Tundra, and Weathered Moss. I don't know about you, but I could really go for a slice of pie right now! I used sequins and beads from Hayride (they're also in the Scenic Route Color Story) to add some sparkle to the filling.

This garland will look right at home in my dining room this year. I can't wait to put it up and use it! Thank you so much for joining me today. I'll be back next week with another project to share. Until then, have a great weekend and happy crafting!

  • How cute! I made a small wreath using the turkey…turned out great. I tend to skip over Thanksgiving because I’m always working on Christmas items. I’m hoping you come up with a cute (larger) snowman that can be used for an ornament and in a wreath! Thanks for sharing your talent!
